How it works (at a glance)

  1. Open: Add → Semantic Scholar.
  2. Search: by title, author, DOI, arXiv ID, or keywords.
  3. Select: one or many results; preview abstracts and fields.
  4. Import:
    • Metadata only, or
    • Metadata + PDF (when S2 provides an open-access link).
  5. Post-import: Clevia runs processing/OCR and indexing → items become Ready for search, chat, and citations.
Not all results include downloadable PDFs. When no PDF is available, you’ll still get complete metadata and identifiers

Step-by-step

1

Open the S2 search

In the Library, click Add → Semantic Scholar to open the S2 Search dialog
2

Find the right paper

  • Search by exact title or paste a DOI / arXiv ID for higher precision
  • Use author:last-name plus a keyword from the title to disambiguate
Result list shows: title, authors, venue/year, abstract snippet, citation count, DOI/arXiv, and an Available PDF indicator (if present)
3

Select results

  • Tick the checkbox next to each paper you want
  • Click a row to preview details before importing
4

Choose import options

  • Import metadata only: creates a reference with identifiers and fields
  • Import metadata + PDF: attaches the PDF from S2’s open-access link (when provided)
5

Finish

Click Import. Watch Processing/OCR badges; items flip to Ready when indexed
  • Prefer DOI when known (fastest and most accurate).
  • For arXiv preprints, paste the arXiv ID; you can later replace with the published DOI.
  • Add a year or venue term (e.g., “NeurIPS 2017”) to narrow results.

Troubleshooting

  • Paste its DOI directly, or try the publisher title
  • Check spelling/diacritics; add venue/year to the query
Use Delete and re-import, or Replace identifiers with the correct DOI → Fetch
The S2 entry may not include an open-access link. Download from the publisher (if licensed) and Attach via the Reference details pane
