In the library, click a reference Title to open the Details pane

Edit metadata
Click pencil icon in the top right corner

Change metadata
Make changes and press enter/tab
Fields you can edit
- Title → Use the published title exactly as it appears
- Citation key → Edit citation key for internal use
- DOI → Paste the DOI identifier only (e.g., 10.48550/arXiv.1706.03762)
Effects on citations & the editor
- In-text citations and bibliographies use your metadata + selected style
- Citekey powers @references in the editor. Changing the citekey can affect existing mentions - prefer to keep it stable once you’ve started writing

- Try a different source (publisher DOI vs. aggregator), or use PMID/arXiv
- Check for copy/paste of a full URL—paste just the identifier

- Choose Keep mine for affected fields and correct manually
- Some records have multiple versions—confirm you’re fetching the correct one

- Hover the error badge to see the rule; fix and retry
- If year is unknown, leave it blank rather than guessing
